Pursuing Excellence for Tomorrows Challenges
Thank you for visiting my page! Teaching 5th and 6th grade strings at CIS is wonderful. I am so glad that you have joined strings class! I have taught more than 1200 beginners in District 5 to play the violin, viola, cello or stringed bass and together we have performed many concerts! My strings students bring me joy every day as I watch them develop their musicianship. I have taught strings to all ages, including at the college level. Parents, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org so I have your email addresses for class news!
Before becoming a teacher, my violin took me to many countries as a professional violinist. My first job was in an orchestra in Holland and I didn't have a car, just a bicycle to ride to the concert hall. I put the violin in a sack over the back wheel and biked to the rehearsals and concerts. I have also performed lots of concerts in Canada, New York, Toronto, and as far west as California. One of the tours was to Inuvik (a city North of the Arctic Circle) where it was so cold that the toilet froze on the airplane! I also have been on many recordings-- some classical and some popular music. My concerts have ranged from The Northern Philharmonic Orchestra in Holland to Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra in Toronto, the Hartford Cowgirls in Ct, and the New Kids on the Block Christmas Album. Now I perform with Columbia Baroque in SC.
I am married to Dr. Peter A. Hoyt who teaches Music History at USC, and we have two wonderful daughters. I love to garden and cook (with my garden produce), read, sew, travel, and enjoy being with my family. Thanks for visiting!
