26-27 Zoning Information
Redistricting in School District Five will take effect in the 2026-2027 school year.

To learn how this will affect your family and your school choice options, the district recommends taking the following steps.
1. Visit the school zone locator and type in your address. The school zone locator will determine what school your child(ren) will attend for the 2026-2027 school year, providing the elementary school, middle school and high school.

2. Based on the information provided by the zone locator, families have the following options for placement
- Accept new location
- Stay tuned for dates and times for each school for family and new student orientations at each elementary and middle school happening before May 2026
- *Time sensitive* - Utilize the Choice Application Window (closes Jan. 28, 2026 at 12:00 p.m /NOON) for magnet school and choice options within the district. Visit www.lexrich5.org/choice for full details or contact the District Magnet Office with questions.
- The Choice Application is a lottery selection. If accepted, students may stay through the school’s highest grade level.
- Transportation is NOT provided. Families are responsible for student transportation if opting into a school choice or magnet school/program.
- Apply by January 28, 2026: Click here to complete the application.
- Schools open to Choice vary each year based on space available at each school and at each grade level.
- Select Ballentine Families
- Preferred Choice: Limited continuity options for select Ballentine families to preserve program participation.
- For current Ballentine Elementary students who would otherwise be moving schools
- Interested families should complete a Choice Application within the stated timeframe.
- Preferred Pathway: Option for select Ballentine families who will be redistricted to both new elementary and new middle schools.
- These families will be notified individually regarding their choice options.
- Preferred Choice: Limited continuity options for select Ballentine families to preserve program participation.

Middle School Education Structure:
School District Five is removing intermediate level schools in the district, creating 5 middle schools serving grades 6-8. The new middle school changes are as follows:

The current Chapin Intermediate School located at 1130 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin, SC 29036 will be renamed Chapin Middle School.

The current Chapin Middle School located at 11661 Broad River Rd, Chapin, SC 29036 will be renamed to Spring Hill Middle School. Students attending Spring Hill Middle School do not automatically attend Spring Hill High School.

Spring Hill High School is an all-magnet high school and students who attend the school apply through the annual Magnet School and Choice Application.

The current Crossroads Intermediate School will become Crossroads Middle School Academy for Innovative Learning.

If you would like your student to attend Crossroads Middle School Academy for Innovative Learning and are not zoned for the school, utilize the Choice Application to designate this preference for the 2026-2027 school year.

Start and Dismissal Times:
Uniform start and dismissal times for district schools based on location (effective July 1, 2026). The new times are as follows:
- Elementary School: 7:40 am - 2:30 pm
- Middle School: 8:00 am - 3:15 pm
- High School (Chapin, Dutch Fork and Irmo): 8:20 am - 3:40 pm
- Spring Hill High School: 8:35 am - 3:30 pm
- Center for Advanced Technical Studies: 8:30 am - 3:20 pm
