      Winter 2018 Reading Program

      The statewide Read with the Gamecocks reading program will continue to promote literacy by creating a three-segment reading program.  With this year's plan, we have expanded the program to include more sports including women's and men's basketball.


      Eligable Participants:  Elementary school students grades K-8.

      Program Specifics:  Students are able to attend one women's and one men's basketball game.  This year's literacy games are scheduled as follows:

      • Women's Basketball vs. Kentucky - Sunday, February 18, 2018 @ 3:00pm Colonial Life Arena
      • Men's Basketball vs. Florida - Saturday, February 10, 2018 @ 12:00pm Colonial Life Arena

      Rules:  Each student will record and total the number of pages of age appropriate pages read during the contest on the Reading Log sheets provided by January 29, 2018. Please contact the OPES Media Center for the reading log.*

      Prizes:  Prizes will be awarded to the following participants:

      • All Reading Participants will receive a Voucher to a South Carolina men's basketball and women's basketball game.
      • Overall State Highest Reading Heroes by Grade (K-8) will receive a certificate and picture with Cocky presented at the women's basketball game.

      GRADES 4K-5th

                                                          7:10 Bus riders arrive; breakfast begins

                                                          7:15 Doors open, car rider line drop off begins with adult supervision

                                                          7:40 Breakfast ends

                                                          7:45 Students report to class

                                                          7:50 Tardy bell rings; class begins (Parents must sign tardy students in at the office)

                                                          2:40 Dismissal – All students must be picked up by 3:00pm

      *After 3:00pm, students will be placed in After-School Safari for a fee of $15.00 to be paid upon pick-up.
