• READERS ARE LEADERS

What is one of the best habits you can teach your child?  Teach them to develop the habit of reading.  Students who read at home for pleasure have shown research-based increases in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and higher grades in school.  Try to keep your focus light and fun.  You want your child to associate reading as a pleasurable activity.

Texts read at home should be selected by your child and can include books, magazines, graphic novels and even comic books.  Keep books in your car to cover trips to ball practice or restaurants. Set a time of day for everyone in the family to read for twenty minutes.  You can also continue reading aloud to your child through middle and high school. Pick a book at higher reading levels to share and talk about as a family.  Passing on the love of reading to your children is one of the best gifts you can give them.
