The Action for Unity Club is a student-led initiative to fight hate and intolerance. We, in partnership with the community, reach out with purposeful acts of kindness to promote awareness, healing, and unity between people of diverse backgrounds. We choose to celebrate our similarities rather than allow our differences to divide us. Together, we hope to spread love so that everyone can live in a community where they feel safe, included, and valued. This is ACTION's fifth year in the district and second at Irmo Middle School.  The club is available to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.  As the founder and sponsor of ACTION, I invite your child to join ACTION.

    History of the Club

As a grade social studies teacher, I encouraged real world connections to make history come alive. This took on new meaning in 2015 after the tragic shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Five days later, I traveled to Poland for a Holocaust study tour. These events inspired me to action. My students and I began by promoting the Hate Won’t Win challenge in our school, district, and city. We then formed our ACTION Club (Assisting Communities Together; Inspiring Our Neighbors).
