Mindfulness

  • Last school year, Mrs. Newton created the "Room to Breathe."  It is a room with dim lighting, tranquil music, calming fragrance, and comfortable seating located in the Kindergarten wing.  I will be using this space to conduct small group counseling sessions for all grade levels using MINDFULNESS techniques.  Mindfulness is simply paying attention to what is happening at the present moment.  Some mindfulness techniques include deep breathing and learning to calm down when feeling angry.  Mrs. Newton created a video of how SOES incorporated mindfulness into the school culture that I have provided here.  I am also posting a link here to a video that explains what mindfulness means to kids.  If you think your child could benefit from being in a mindfulness small counseling group please let me know!
