    3-D Design

    8th Grade

    Length of course: Semester

    Prerequisite: None

Course Description: This course is offered to 8th-grade students allowing them the opportunity to take multiple art classes in one year. The emphasis of 3-D Design is to strengthen the student’s awareness of different media techniques including but not limited to various forms of sculpture and three-dimensional drawing. This course is based on the Elements and Principles of Art as well as SC standards.

Student Benefit: The middle school art program enriches the entire curriculum in so many ways and has four components that create a quality program. This year in art class students in 8th graders will focus on problem solving, using the Elements and Principles of Design. This includes Aesthetic Perception, Art Criticism, Art History and Culture, and Art Production and Creative Expression.  These four components will be a part of art class and will provide a strong connection to curriculum integration. Students will also have opportunities to write about and discuss their own works, and the works of others. Throughout the semester we will explore various art mediums to create 3D works of art including clay, plaster, wood, wire, glass, and dry foam block carving.
