Pursuing Excellence for Tomorrow's Challenges
In their first unit of study, Pre-Algebra students learned about numerical and algebraic expressions. In addition, order of operations was a key concept taught. The calendar project consisted of creating a calendar for September 2017 using two or more variables (algebraic expressions) in place of the numbers (dates). Students were given the set values for the variables a, b, c, and d where a = 1, b = 2, c = 3, and d = 4. They were only allowed to use each variable once per day, and they did not have to use all the variables. Each day of the month had to be an algebraic expression that equaled the date.
Example: On the 19th, you could use bd + ac because
2(4) + 1 × 3 = 19
They turned out great, and I am super proud of them!
