Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Heather Gilbert

Welcome!

This is my second year teaching music at Harbison West Elementary School. I have a true passion for music and education, drawn to it since my own elementary experience. I began teaching flute lessons in high school and found that nothing surpassed the joy I received from sharing my love of music with others. I moved on to pursue a degree in music education and obtained my bachelor's degree from Lander University in 2012, graduating with honors. Lander University provided ample experience in performance (vocal and instrumental), education, history, and music theory. Most importantly, my primary goal is the successful growth of all students, musically and developmentally. Through music, students benefit academically, emotionally, and socially. We will also have FUN while we learn! Music has a way of helping students to express themselves and grow in a unique way.  In fact, some of my fondest educational memories are those made during my own grade school music experience, and without it, I would not be who I am today. I count myself blessed for the opportunity to help students find their own confidence and voice.

Outside of school, I am a mom and daughter that loves spending time with family, especially outdoors, gardening, hiking, exploring new places, and of course, anything music related.  I especially love to sing and play the flute, guitar, ukulele, and piano. I have two children, a fourth grader named Lily and a third grader named CJ. Although we like to explore, South Carolina and the midlands will always be our home.

This is going to be an AWESOME year, and I am excited to share it with you!!
