Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Heather Gilbert

My name is Heather Gilbert and I am thrilled to share my love of music with the students at Harbison West Elementary School. This is my first year teaching in District 5.  I have felt drawn to teaching since I was in elementary school myself.  I began teaching my first flute lessons in high school and found that nothing surpassed the joy I received from sharing my love of music with others. I obtained my bachelor's degree from Lander University in 2012.  I thoroughly enjoyed college and graduated with honors. Lander Univeristy provided ample experience in performance (vocal and instrumental), education, history, and music theory. As a music educator, my primary focus is the successful growth of students, both musically and developmentally. Through music, students benefit academically, emotionally, and socially. We will also have tons of FUN while we learn! Music has a way of helping students to express themselves and grow in a unique way.  In fact, music brought me out of my shell as a kid, and some of my best school memories are those made in band and choir.  I feel blessed to have the opportunity to teach and help students find their own confidence and voice.

I have two children, a third grader named Lily and a second grader named CJ. My family and I live in Gaston. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially outdoors, gardening, hiking, exploring new places, and of course, anything music related.  I especially love to sing and play the flute, guitar, ukulele, and piano. Although we like to explore, South Carolina and the midlands will always be our home.

This is going to be an AWESOME year, and I am excited to share it with you!!
