Coach Whipple has accumulated a long list of achievements during his tenure but none stand out more than the five South Carolina AAAA State Championships his teams have won. In 2010-11, Coach added trophy number four to the collection as the Yellow Jackets returned to glory with another state championship. Then in the 2012-13 season, he led his team to the first unbeaten season of his career and title number five. The 2015-16 season found the Yellow Jackets in the state championship game for the ninth time. This past season, under Coach Whipple's leadership, Irmo had a 22-win season, won their 8th consecutive Region Championship and played in the Lower State Championship game.
Tim is ranked 3rd in state history in total wins and his nine state championship appearances are the most of any 4A coach. The Irmo program also has seventeen Region Championships under Tim, including eight seasons of being undefeated in region play.
Known across the state for his team's competitiveness, sound fundamentals and sportsmanship, the Yellow Jackets have enjoyed enormous success on and off the court under Tim's leadership. He has coached 40 players who have participated on the collegiate level. Tim has been named South Carolina Coach of the Year three times, Area Coach of the Year six times and Region Coach of the Year on fourteen occasions. In October 2001 Coach Whipple was inducted to the Erskine College Athletic Hall of Fame and was elected to the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011. Most recently, Tim reached the pinnacle of state coaching honors when he was inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
