School District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties has a tradition of excellence in arts education. Students at all levels in every school are given the opportunity to participate in quality arts programs based on the South Carolina Visual and Performing Arts Standards.
In the elementary schools, students participate in music and visual arts classes on a weekly basis. In the fifth grade, students may begin orchestra or participate in chorus.
Band, orchestra, chorus, and visual arts programs are available at CrossRoads Middle School. Students at Dutch Fork Middle School and Chapin Middle School may also participate in theatre. Dance is an option for students at Irmo Middle School and Dutch Fork Middle School.
At Irmo High School, Chapin High School and Dutch Fork High School, students may choose to participate in band, chorus, orchestra, theatre, and visual arts. Students at Spring Hill High School may participate in visual arts, dance and theatre. Students at Dutch Fork High School and Irmo High School may also choose to participate in dance.
