CrossRoads Intermediate School gears up for 2016-17 school year at Cougar Camp

IRMO- In preparation for the 2016-2017 school year, CrossRoads Intermediate School held “Cougar Camp” for students and parents. The camp was split into two, one-hour sessions where teachers led students and parents through the school for tutorials on how to work their lockers and what to expect for the upcoming school year.

“Today was a special day at CrossRoads Intermediate School as we held our annual Cougar Camp!” CrossRoads principal Jess Hutchinson said. “Our hallways and classrooms were filled with excited students and parents ready to start their sixth grade year. What better way to start our school year than to have these amazing young learners, their parents and their teachers participate together in a fun and informative event. We are officially ready for a great 2016-2017 school year!”

Team Leader at the Cougar Camp and Language Arts teacher Mindy Bullard was so proud of the turn out and how students and parents benefitted from it saying, “Cougar Camp is our way of breaking the ice for both our new sixth graders and their parents. Our school motto is ‘CrossRoads… where students are cherished and challenged,” and Cougar camp is our first opportunity to show our kids just how much we really do cherish them.”

The culminating event at Cougar Camp is a tradition that every CrossRoads student has experienced since the school’s inception: water balloons! CrossRoads has students that come from ten different elementary schools and they make it a point to let them know from this day forward, they are Cougars. Water balloons are popped over their heads with a hearty “Welcome to CrossRoads” from their teachers. “Students went home with wet heads, cold popsicles and hopefully a warm place in their hearts for their new school,” Bullard said.

CrossRoads has a mission to educate sixth grade students at the crossroads of childhood and adolescence in a nurturing and caring environment that prepares them to be future leaders. The school is characterized by top ratings, high standards and rigorous curricula.
