District Five announces new leadership assignments for 2016-17 school year

IRMO – As the summer days continue on, District Five is progressing towards being prepared for the upcoming school year. Leaders in the district are moving to new positions including: Mr. Jeff Corley, Ms. Jo Howe, Ms. Susan Elvis, Mr. Brandon Gantt, Mr. Floyd White and Ms. Trina Dickerson.

Corley was selected to become the Assistant Principal at Irmo High School after serving as Administrative Assistant Principal there. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters in Teaching and Education from the University of South Carolina. Corley was asked about his new position and said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to increase my presence in our community and excited for what the future holds at Irmo High School. I am also eager to assist in preparing our students for their life after high school.”

Howe has accepted the position of Assistant Principal at Dutch Fork Middle School after serving as the school’s Digital Integration Specialist. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Newberry College and a Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision from Southern Wesleyan. “Dutch Fork Middle School has been a second home to me for 12 years now,” Howe said. “I’m thrilled to move into the assistant principal role in a school where every person is valued, and where educating children is our main priority. I’m blessed to be in District Five and look forward to a great school year.”

Elvis takes over as Administrative Assistant Principal at Dutch Fork High School after serving as a Biology teacher there. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Presbyterian College and a Masters of Education in Language and Literacy at USC. She is currently working on a Masters in Educational Administration.

Gantt was selected to become the Administrative Assistant Principal at Nursery Road Elementary School after serving as a fifth grade teacher at Seven Oaks Elementary School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Newberry College, an M.B.A. from Walden University and is currently pursuing a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision at Southern Wesleyan.

White has accepted the Administrative Assistant Principal position at Irmo High School after serving as an English teacher at Dutch Fork Middle School. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Level Education from USC-Aiken and a Masters of Education in Education Administration.

Dickerson takes over Administrative duties at The Academy for Success after serving as a Science teacher and Student Council Advisor at Dutch Fork Middle School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science at Augusta College, a Masters of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education at S.C. State University, an Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Natural Sciences from USC and is currently working on a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership there.

District Superintendent, Dr. Stephen Hefner said, “It is great to get our leadership team set for the upcoming school-year.  These six individuals have demonstrated they are ready for the challenges of increased responsibility.  I am confident they will excel in their new positions.”
