Spring Hill High School alum wins U.S. National Wakeboarding Junior Women’s Championship
CHAPIN- In impressive fashion with a score of 80.00, recent Spring Hill High School graduate Ellery Hunt took home the Nautique World Wakeboard Association U.S. National Wakeboarding Junior Women’s Championship held on July 28 in Acworth, Georgia.
“I was definitely surprised when I found out I won,” Hunt said. “The competition was really tight and didn’t believe I actually won until I looked at the scores and there my name was at the top.”
According to the World Wakeboard Association, Hunt took home the title with her “silky smooth style to perfectly execute each trick combination that she threw down.” When asked what it is like to have national champion forever tied to her name, Hunt smiled and said, “It means a lot to be named a national champion. To have my family supporting me through all these years of practice and for God to bless me with the talent to wakeboard is incredible. It’s crazy to know that I’m one of the best in the nation. I didn’t expect for it to take off the way it did.”
Hunt says she will take a year off from school before deciding on her next career move. She plans to move to Orlando in September where she will live and train with wakeboard professional Jamie Lopina who is currently ranked 22nd in the world. Hunt says she would like to major in Graphic Design and has hopes to attend Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida.
Spring Hill High School principal, Dr. Michael Lofton was elated when he found out about Hunt’s national championship saying, “We are so proud of Ellery! She is a great role model and exudes passion and determination in achieving her goals. That is a prime example of the Spring Hill way!”
