School District Five educators are new graduates of SC Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program

IRMO – Three Lexington-Richland School District Five educators have qualified to become South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teachers.

Angela McGregor (Flexible Innovative Virtual Education), Patera Eskew-Martin (Dutch Fork Elementary), and Sherry Stone (Spring Hill High) were three of the fifteen educators from across South Carolina recently recognized by State Treasurer Curtis Loftis at the 34th Annual Economics and Financial Literacy Awards Luncheon in West Columbia. Each honoree completed the bronze, silver and gold levels of the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program, an innovative multi-year program designed to increase the number of teachers incorporating personal finance education into their classrooms.

A passionate advocate for financial literacy education, Treasurer Loftis launched the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program in January 2020 to provide financial incentives, specialized training and financial literacy curriculum resources to K-12 teachers at no cost to schools.

“I am pleased to congratulate our second graduating class of Financial Literacy Master Teachers,” Treasurer Loftis said. “These gifted educators possess the important training, knowledge, and life experiences that inspire both their students and their peers. We are grateful they chose to become financial literacy educators, and we hope they continue to inspire South Carolina students for many years to come.” 

Sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan, and in partnership with SC Economics, the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program not only encourages educators to teach personal finance education in their classrooms, but also helps them hold professional development workshops for their fellow educators, increasing the number of teachers sharing financial literacy lessons across the state.
