IRMO – Two Lexington Richland School District Five educators have been recognized by South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis for achieving Bronze certification and qualifying for the fourth cohort of the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program.

Jane Miller (Dutch Fork High), and Gayle Whitlock (FIVE) are 2 of 19 educators statewide who are part of the cohort.

Launched in 2020, the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program utilizes financial incentives, specialized training and innovative curriculum resources to increase the number of K-12 teachers who incorporate personal finance education into the classroom.

“I want to congratulate these hardworking educators and thank them for promoting financial literacy,” Treasurer Loftis said. “The knowledge they have gained from this program will help them prepare young students for the future. We value their efforts and look forward to their further success in the coming years.”

The South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program provides financial incentives to K-12 teachers who are experts in the area of financial literacy and have a desire to teach professional development workshops to other educators in their schools and districts. Sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan, and in partnership with SC Economics, the program offers specialized training and financial literacy education curriculum resources at no cost to schools.

To become a South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher, applicants must complete professional development class requirements as well as create and lead professional development training for their peers. Applicants must also pass the W!SE Personal Finance Certification Test for Educators, a nationally recognized credential.
