Dutch Fork High School wins 5A Division I State Championship

IRMO – The Dutch Fork High School football program has won the class 5A Division I state championship.

The Silver Foxes defeated Summerville 35-21 to clinch the title December 13 at South Carolina State’s Oliver Dawson Stadium. Since the South Carolina High School League expanded to five classifications in 2016, Dutch Fork has won nine state championships.

“We have great players, great coaches and great administration,” Dutch Fork High School Coach Tom Knotts said. “I think we do things the right way. It was an intense game and it got a little chippy and out of control for a moment, but we were able to come away with the victory. This win meant a lot to us because we worked hard for it all year.”

It was the Silver Foxes’ third straight title and ninth in 12 appearances under head coach Tom Knotts. This was also the fifth undefeated season in school history for the Silver Foxes (13-0).

“The Dutch Fork community is extremely proud of this football team,” said Dutch Fork High School principal Dr. Gerald Gary. “I'm so excited for our football players, coaches and school community. It's been another fantastic season and our coaches and players have proven year after year that, "hard work pays off"! Congratulations!”
