School District Five names new Athletic Director for Chapin High School

IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five has named Billie Williams the new athletic director of Chapin High School. Williams will replace Ronnie Wessinger who is retiring at the end of the school year.

"It is a true honor to step into the role of Athletic Director at Chapin High School, a place I have been fortunate to call home for almost two decades,” Williams said. “I am excited to serve the student-athletes, families, and coaches of the Chapin community. As Chapin's population continues to grow, so does the opportunity to elevate Chapin Athletics. Working alongside our administration and coaching staff, I look forward to building on the history and traditions engrained in Chapin Athletics. My hope is to develop student-athletes of character, strengthen our connection to the Chapin community, and help our athletes pursue success both in the classroom and in championship competition. Together, we will continue to shape a program that reflects the heart of Chapin, where tradition meets growth, and excellence is always the standard."

Williams has been teaching for 15 years, the last 11 years have been at Chapin High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in history from The Citadel. Williams' impact in leadership roles at Chapin High include serving as the Student Activities Coordinator, Student Government sponsor, Key Club sponsor and as the Varsity Cheerleading Assistant
Coach. She was also named the Lexington-Richland School District Five Teacher of the Year for the 2017-2018 school year.

“I am excited about Coach Williams stepping into this role,” Chapin High School Principal Ed Davis said. “Her years of commitment to the development and excellence of students and student-athletes at Chapin High have positioned her for this moment.  She will stand on the shoulders of those who made our athletic department one of the best in this state and elevate it to even greater levels.  This is a great day for Chapin! Go Eagles!"
