School District Five teacher selected to participate in statewide seminar
IRMO – A Lexington-Richland School District Five teacher has been chosen as one of ten educators from across South Carolina to participate in the Fall 2024 Strategies for Teacher Advancement and Renewal Seminar (STAR).
Dr. Lucia Jacobs was selected for STAR through a statewide rigorous application process. She is a science teacher at the Academy For Success.
“I am beyond excited to be chosen as a STAR teacher as one of only ten teachers in the state for Fall 2024,” Jacobs said. “It’s an incredible honor, and I can’t wait to participate in this unique opportunity. I hope to connect with fellow educators who share my passion for inspiring students. This experience will not only enrich my own practice but also empower me to make an even greater impact in my classroom."
The seminar will be held at Seabrook Island on October 28-November 1, 2024. STAR is a bi-annual reward and recognition program for outstanding South Carolina veteran teachers sponsored by the Foundation for Professional Development and Palmetto State Teachers Association.
More than 550 educators have participated in STAR Seminars since 1994. The program was begun by Palmetto State Teachers Association to enhance the teachers’ commitment to the education profession and to provide them with opportunities for personal and professional growth. The five-day retreat is funded by private contributions through the Foundation for Professional Development.
