Irmo High School Team Wins State Consumer Challenge
IRMO – Students from Irmo High School recently competed in the South Carolina LifeSmarts National Consumer Challenge, a competition that tests students’ knowledge of personal finance, consumer rights, technology, health, and the environment.
The event was sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs and held at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies in late February.
The Irmo High School team delivered an outstanding performance, winning the South Carolina Consumer Challenge and earning the opportunity to represent the state at the national level. Their victory secured them a spot at the LifeSmarts National Competition, which will take place April 15–18 in Orlando.
Team members include Captain Major Taylor, along with Antonio Spears, Hayden Applegate, Robert Lawrence, and Jayden Bales. The team is coached by Tari Watson, with Jeremy McMichael serving as assistant coach.
As state champions, the Irmo LifeSmarts team will travel to Orlando to compete against top student teams from across the country. In addition to the national title, the students will also have opportunities to pursue additional sponsorships to support their journey to the competition.
“I am excited to be representing South Carolina this year,” Major Taylor said. “I believe in the LifeSMarts program and enjoy learning about different topics I will encounter as an adult. This program has helped me become a more informed person. I am looking forward to seeing how we do at nationals.”
Irmo High School is proud of these students for their hard work, teamwork, and dedication to developing strong consumer and financial literacy skills.
