Run Hard Running Team gives Back Supporting Literacy and Community at H. E. Corley Elementary
IRMO – H. E. Corley Elementary School recently came together for a truly moving celebration of love, generosity, and remembrance. Through the Tank Gibes Back initiative, in partnership with the Run Hard Running Team and H. E. Corley Elementary School, $7,000 was raised to support literacy and the H. E. Corley Community.
This initiative honors the late Sarah Harmon, a beloved former Kindergarten teacher and the 2012–2013 H . E. Corley Teacher of the Year, who poured her heart into teaching, nurturing, and inspiring students. Harmon courageously battled colon cancer and passed away last year, but her passion for children, literacy, and learning continues to inspire everyone.
Friends, family, and supporters gathered recently to walk in her memory, celebrate her life, and present this incredible gift back to H. E. Corley Elementary School. Because of this generosity, Corley will now have enhanced literacy resources for students and a mural that reflects Harmon’s deep love for learning—a daily reminder that the seeds planted in classrooms grow far beyond the walls.
Reflecting on this moment, Principal Melanie Harris shared: "It is an absolute honor to celebrate the life and legacy of an amazing teacher. Sarah was more than an educator—she was a light in our school, a champion for children, and a heart that touched every student she taught. We are so grateful for her family and their foundation, wanting to pour back into the school Sarah loved so dearly. The Harmon family, along with the Run Hard Running Team and so many generous donors, have immensely blessed us! We are beyond grateful and will honor and treasure Sarah's legacy. Her impact lives on at H.E. Corley, and we are so proud to carry it forward."
Harmon’s legacy is not only in the lessons she taught but in the love she gave, the lives she shaped, and the passion she carried for literacy. Through this partnership, her light continues to shine, inspiring generations of Corley Crocs to come.
