School District Five Adult Education Program receives statewide recognition
IRMO – The Lexington-Richland School District Five Adult Education Program was recognized by the South Carolina Department of Education Office of Adult Education for outstanding performance in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) performance.
Over the last year, School District Five made significant gains to the number of adult education completers as well as the number of students who completed subsets of the GED test. School District Five also received the Integrated Education and Training award, which recognizes the progress the district made with integrating the Pharmacy Technician Program.
“It is an absolute honor to be recognized for the hard work that we exhibited last year,” Adult Education Director Dr. John McMillan said. “It shows that we are headed in the right direction as a program. I am very proud of my team. It would not have been possible without them. With that said, we understand that last year's touchdowns do not win today's games, so we are on the grind to do better this year!”
School District Five’s Adult Education program offers opportunities for adult students to earn a high school diploma or a high school equivalency credential through GED. Additional programs and offerings include: English Language Acquisition (ESL), Career Preparation Workshops, Paraprofessional Certification, Career Exploration through ASVAB, Family Literacy, Workplace Literacy, College and Military Entrance Exam Preparation, Academic Enrichment, and a Pharmacy Technician Integrated Education and Training Program.
“Receiving these two awards from the state Department of Education is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the dedication our Adult Education team brings to our community every day,” Chief Student Services and Planning Officer Dr. Michael Harris said. “Their commitment to expanding opportunity, empowering learners, and delivering high-quality instruction is truly exceptional. We are proud of their work and grateful for the positive impact they continue to make across our district and in our community.”
