The Center for Advanced Technical Studies to host Open House and Student Showcase

IRMO – The Center for Advanced Technical Studies (The Center) is opening their doors to the community and hosting an Open House and Student Showcase Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. located at 916 Mt. Vernon Church Road in Chapin. 

During the event all stakeholders will be able to tour the entire school and speak to students and instructors about their current projects and research taking place at The Center. This opportunity provides parents, students, and community members the opportunity to see, ask and understand student research, practices and technical applications of their specialized course. Teachers and current students will also be available to answer questions and discuss curriculum. 

The Center serves grades 9-12 throughout the district and offers a wide variety of specialized courses in 17 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The Center recently announced the addition of three new courses at the school, Drone Technologies, Farm Animal Production and Baking and Pastries.  CTE Programs at The Center include Aerospace Engineering, Agriculture/Wildlife Management, Auto Repair Technology, Bioengineering Systems, Biomedical Science, Building Construction, Culinary Arts, Cyber Security/Networking, Digital Art and Design, Electrical Systems, Civil Engineering, HVAC, Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue, Media Technology, Veterinary Science, and Welding.

"This event opens the doors to the public and district families to showcase the great research, technical application and career ready programming at The Center,” School District Five Assistant Director of The Center Roy Frick said. “The incredible work of our CTE instructors at The Center prepares students for the workforce now and provides a rigorous foundation for students pursuing postsecondary studies. We look forward to inviting our community to view the excellence of our students and CTE in School District Five.”
