Lexington-Richland School District Five Adult Education earns high praise in State Compliance Monitoring Report

IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five's Adult Education program has received outstanding recognition from the South Carolina Department of Education's Compliance Monitoring team, earning praise for its leadership, student success, community partnerships, and commitment to excellence.

In its final report, the Compliance Monitoring team commended Adult Education Director Dr. John McMillan for his leadership and dedication to the program.

"The Compliance Monitoring team wishes to commend Dr. John McMillan for his efforts and hard work to lead Lexington-Richland Five Adult Education," the report states, noting his strong support from staff, the Board of Trustees, Board leadership, and Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross, Sr.

The report highlighted numerous strengths of the district's Adult Education program, including:

• Exceptional support from Lexington-Richland School District Five and recognition from the state Office of Career Readiness.
• Dedicated, knowledgeable teachers and staff who foster high expectations and meaningful relationships with students.
• Strong student achievement, with the program performing above the state standard in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) for two consecutive years (2022-2023 and 2023-2024), while continuing to exceed the state standard in ABE during the 2024-2025 school year.
• A positive, focused learning environment that helps students remain engaged and achieve their educational and career goals.
• Innovative student support systems, including individualized progress tracking, structured orientation, and consistent communication through social media, email, text messaging, and digital applications.
• Valuable partnerships with organizations such as Midlands Technical College, Vocational Rehabilitation, Walgreens, and SC Works that expand opportunities for students.
• Sound financial management and accurate recordkeeping.

The monitoring team also praised the program's convenient and flexible class offerings, comprehensive intake and orientation process, and the involvement of staff and College and Career Navigators in helping students map pathways toward earning a high school diploma, GED credential, workforce certifications, and career advancement.
