School District Five students earn medals at national leadership conference

IRMO – Students from Irmo High School traveled to Seattle, Washington for the 2024 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference (NLC). This inspiring gathering, held from June 29 to July 3, provided a platform for students to expand their horizons, develop essential life skills, and make a lasting impact.

Among the more than 8,000 passionate young leaders in attendance were students from Irmo High School who actively participated in workshops on employability, college planning, and leadership development. The Irmo High FCCLA chapter distinguished itself by earning a silver medal in the competitive STAR Events for Promote and Publicize FCCLA and Chapter in Review.

Anisa Izzary, a member of the group, described the experience as a "trip of a lifetime," highlighting the opportunity to connect with peers from across the nation. While Chloe Howard talked about how much she appreciated the district helping them go to the national conference and supporting their hard work.

The cornerstone of the NLC, the STAR Events, challenged students to apply their knowledge and skills through real-world projects. With over 4,300 participants competing in 30+ categories, the competition was fierce. These events not only recognized student achievement but also empowered them to become advocates for positive change within their communities.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a Career and Technical Student Organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum and operates within the school system. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues. Through participation in Competitive Events, becoming involved in community service opportunities, student leadership, and attending leadership conferences, members develop real world skills, explore Career Pathways, and become college- and career-ready.
