For Immediate Release – Jun 4, 2018

Lexington-Richland School District Five Summer Food Service Program begins June 11

IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five is participating in the Summer Food Service Program again this year.

Last summer, School District Five served over 59,000 meals. These meals typically are provided to families who struggle to provide balanced meals to their children in the summer months. For the most part, these are the same families that participate in the district’s free and reduced lunch program during the school year.

Todd Bedenbaugh, School District Five’s Director of Student Nutrition, simply stated, “Poverty does not take a break in the summer and neither do we.”

The program will begin on June 11 and end on August 3. Meals will not be offered on Fridays or during the week of July 2, 2018. All children ages 2-18 are eligible for the service. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided, at a first come, first serve basis.
