The Escolares Pathway

Escolares is a district-wide academically gifted magnet program and pathway for students in grades 2-10. The pathway serves students at Harbison West Elementary through the Escolares Academy, Irmo Middle through the I AM Escolares program, and Irmo High through the This Is Escolares program. This Is Escolares will serve as a pathway for ninth and tenth grade students into the International Baccalaureate Programmes for their junior and senior years at Irmo High School. Escolares Pathway Process

APPLICATION:

• Any student in School District Five may apply to participate in any Escolares pathway program.

• Applicants will be evaluated on academic test scores in areas of aptitude and achievement

• To participate in the program, students must apply online during the District's Magnet and Choice Application period, November 20, 2025 through January 28, 2026.

• Students currently enrolled in an Escolares program do not need to complete an application.

 

(Grades 2-5) ESCOLARES ACADEMY: Escolares Academy is a full-day magnet program providing the curriculum and supports needed for students to develop to their maximum potential by utilizing hands-on equations, critical thinking and document-based questions. (Grades 6-8) I AM ESCOLARES: I AM Escolares provides an interdisciplinary honors program within the International Academic Magnet at Irmo Middle. Students focus on Inquiry by exploring the world through a focus on care, service, and personal impact on local and global communities. (Grades 9-10) THIS IS ESCOLARES: This Is Escolares challenges students with honors and AP coursework tailored to enrich student skills in research, writing, mathematic understanding, and scientific inquiry while simultaneously increasing global mindedness and intercultural understanding.  Contact Dr. Tamara Jones at Irmo High for more information at tjjones@lexrich5.org or 803-476-3117.

 

2. GRADUATION: Students apply to college as IB Candidates. Nationally and internationally, IB Candidates have both the highest college acceptance rate and the highest college graduation rate.
