Teaching at DFMS
This will be my sixth year at DFMS. (Go Foxes!) The classes I will be teaching this year will include the following: Honors Chorus 8, Honors Chorus 7, Concert Chorus 8, Concert Chorus 7 and Explore Music.
I am a graduate of The University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks!), where I obtained my Undergraduate Degree in Music Education. After teaching six years in what was then "Lexington District Five", I returned to USC to complete my Master of Education Degree. Wanting to further my education, I then traveled South to Tallahassee, Florida, where I began further graduate studies at The Florida State University (Go Seminoles!). While at FSU, I obtained a Master's Equivalency in Music Therapy and completed my Doctoral Coursework, becoming a Doctoral Candidate in Music Education.
As a music educator, I have been employed by public and private schools in Florida, Idaho and South Carolina. While teaching full or part-time , I often maintained a private studio, offering instruction in piano, voice and guitar. Throughout the years, I have been employed as a church musician in various denominations, serving as a paid soloist, accompanist and/or choir director. My teaching experience has included work with individuals and groups of students ranging in age from Pre-Kindergarten through Senior Adults.
Music has been an important part of my life from my earliest years. I began studying piano, playing in the band and singing in the choir during my elementary school years. Middle and High School brought more of the same and I also began to develop an interest in theater during my high school years.
I began my college education as a Musical Theater Major in a small college in North Carolina, but I changed my major to Music Education and transferred to The University of South Carolina. Once I completed my Undergraduate Degree, I began teaching in Lexington District Five. I am the mother of three boys, who were born in Florida and grew up in Idaho. Zach, Jacob and I moved to South Carolina in July of 2013. Zach completed his Bachelor's Degree at USC and has returned to obtain his Masters Degree in Nursing. while working parttime as an Assistant Supervisorat Costco. Jacob earned his IB Diploma at Irmo High School and now a Junior at Savannah College of Art and Design. Nick and my daughter-in-law Hannah, live at Fort Campbell in Kentucky with my beautiful grandaughter, who will be two on August 30! I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, watching great movies and, or course, making and listening to great music - ALL KINDS!
