Mrs. Nicole Bishop

Hi!  My name is Nicole Bishop.  I have spent 27 years in education and I can say with 100% assurance, I chose the right line of work, because children, teaching and learning are my heart.  I currently teach amazing 1st graders. It is my goal for every child to feel loved, safe, capable, and inspired!  I am a biiiiig Fred Rogers fan.  He is one of my teacher heroes. He was a teacher, indeed.  My heart is certainly full when I am with children.

Speaking of my heart, my God, my husband Michael, and our two daughters, Kathryn (19) and Elizabeth (17) are the light of my life and fill me with joy beyond words and measure.  I am blessed and rich in ways that I cannot always understand or express, although I try.  Michael is a hydrogeologist with DHEC.  He loves to rehabilitate old cars, motorcycles and stereos, can fix anything, is always helping others and his common sense is my daily guidepost.  Kathryn and Elizabeth are the biggest blessings in our life.  Elizabeth is a Junior at SHHS and Kathryn is an Education Major at UofSC!

I love animals and would have lots if I could (I am also allergic).  We have a cute, little, female, short-haired tabby named Tiggy - she's an outside cat, but she comes in whenever we want or whenever she wants!

We love the outdoors, all things green and especially the mountains in the fall, spring and winter.  We loooooove the beach too and enjoy every moment and every breeze of our yearly summer family trip to Edisto Beach.  We have been going since our youngest was 10 months old and she is now 17.  But still, when we are in mountain country, we are "home".  I came face to face with a mama and baby moose in Yellowstone once... I will never forget it.  We were engaged in the Smokies; another 2nd home.

I taught for two years in Chattanooga, TN (Chatt. is our long lost home away from home) before teaching for 5 at IES and 1 at BES.  Then I had Kathryn and moved into the world of part-time work so I could be with the girls and keep them at home.  It was wonderful.  I  literacy coached in D5 for two years and then taught USC undergraduate early childhood education majors and supervised USC interns for 4 years at IES.

Now I am in my 14th year back in the classroom.  I love kids, I love teaching and I LOVE to learn.

I enjoy writing and reading, going to church, being outside in the fresh, breezy air, and being with my family more than anything else.

Thank you for the privilege of teaching and learning alongside your child this year.  I know you love yours like I love mine.  Having children has made me a better teacher,  although I am still learning...always learning, always growing.. never done...
