Mr. John Goodale
MAY INFORMATION - Well, it looks like we are heading into our last month of school still at home. I sure do miss teaching all of you and seeing you coming in the gym learning and having fun playing games, sports and fitness activities. But, what makes me proud is that I see and hear GREAT things about what you are playing and doing to stay fit and keeping healthy while we all are at home. You can still use the PE HOME ACTIVITIES, just scroll down to the MARCH Update and click on that link to open up the page that shares all of the activties and sites to help you choose what to do. Continue to do these activities and be creative and make up you own games and exercises. The main thing is to GET OUT and PLAY! Make sure you ask your parents for permission and even see if they would like to play with you.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE PICTURES/VIDEOS OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS SHOWING US HOW YOU ARE STAYING FIT & HEALTHY. YOU CAN SHARE IT TO OUR SCHOOL'S WEBSITE, FACEBOOK PAGE OR TWITTER. YOU CAN ALSO SEND IT TO ME BY E-MAIL AT: firstname.lastname@example.org
5TH GRADE INFORMATION: TRADITONALLY, DURING THE LAST NINE WEEKS OF SCHOOL I OFFER OUR 5TH GRADERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE THE PE TEACHER DURING A PE CLASS. HERE IS HOW: 1. - PROVIDE A LESSON PLAN -Write the following: TITLE - Name of the Game; 2. - DIRECTIONS -Give step by step rules/directions of how to play the game (How to Start the Game, How to Play with the RULES of the Game and How to Finish the Game.); 3. E-Mail me your leasson. It can be attached as a Word doc. if you'd like, or just email it at: email@example.com
I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED TEACHING YOU WHILE YOU'VE BEEN AT IES and I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST AS YOU MOVE ON TO BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS. REMEMBER ALWAYS GIVE YOUR BEST & NEVER GIVE UP!
GOOD LUCK & I LOVE YOU ALL - COACH GOODALE

APRIL INFORMATION - PE HOME ACTIVITIES: Since our last post of activities our State Parks and Saluda Shoals Park have closed to the public. That does not mean to stop exercising as a family. Y'all can still do activities around your home, in your yard and neighborhoods such as Riding Bikes, Playing Tag and Chase Games, Relays, Hula Hooping & JumpRope - you can do some of the games and activities that we do in PE, and/or make up your own.
Also, some sport activities to work on your skills in Basketball, Baseball/Softball, Tennis, Volleyball just mention a few. Be creative make up games, get you family to play as well.
If you click on the link as shared above in the MARCH INFORMATION note - "PE HOME ACTIVITIES" you can go to the link's doc. to click on it and it that provides all of the cool sites to get games and activities to help in PE. Also one site gives cool jounaling ideas to kind of keep track of how often you are being active. If you want to keep it simple, just journal what you do each day and how long you played/exercised in a notebook.
Again, I hope everyone is doing well and remember to:
BEE SMART - BEE FIT & BEE SAFE.
I'm John Goodale and I am beginning my 33rd year teaching in District Five and am just as excited about teaching PE as I was when I entered my first year in 1986. I graduated of Chapin High School and then went on to get my degree in Physical Education from Newberry College and my Masters from University of South Carolina. I am married (wife-Betsy) and have one daughter (Margo). I absolutely love Irmo Elementary and the FAMILY atmosphere that we have, in fact Irmo Elementary has been a major part of my life, because I went to school here as well, so when I was a 1st grader I walked through the same door into the same gym as our students do today. So "This Place" is special and I cherish the opportunity to teach all of our students that walk through that same door.
My goal is to provide a healthy and fun environment where all of our students learn the importance of developing and sustaining a healthy lifestyle. I will offer many activities within our SC State PE Standards and NASPE, to allow students to develop understanding and skills to perform at healthy levels of sport and exercise. By doing this each individual student will experience areas, skills and sports that they are very comfortable with and some areas that they realize that it may take some more time and work to improve.
Regardless, it is my goal that students find something that they LOVE doing and continue that passion as they move on to middle and high school levels, as well with hopes to that they continue these healthy habits into adulthood to stay fit and healthy. Feel free to check into this site at times to see neat activities, information, events and news that will be helpful not only for your child(ren), but also you and your whole family.
If there are any questions or in need of assistance please feel free to contact me. Irmo Elementary School is a great school because of our leadership, staff, parents and most importantly our students.
Bee Happy & Bee Fit!
