I am the Reading Coach and Response to Intervention Specialist at Irmo Elementary!  I love to read and write with students and teachers!  I especially enjoy books by Southern authors, books with surprise endings, books that stretch my thinking, and books with funny characters also peak my interest!

I grew up in the Irmo area and attended District Five schools from kindergarten through high school graduation.  I earned my Bachelor's degree from Clemson University, my Master's degree from the University of South Carolina, and my Doctorate degree from the Richard W. Riley School of Education at Walden University.  I did my student teaching at Irmo Elementary in 1st and 4th grades in 1999 and have been here ever since!  I taught 5th grade for many years, as well as Reading Recovery.  I currently serve as Reading Coach and RtI Specialist.  In 2007, I had the opportunity to represent all the teachers in South Carolina and even met the President and First Lady in the Oval Office at the White House!  I have been extremely blessed with opportunities in my career and am forever grateful for the people I've met on my journey!  "Smiling Faces and Beautiful Places" sure is a true slogan for our Palmetto State!

Outside of school I enjoy reading and playing with my family.  My husband, our three daughters, our Labrador "Moultrie" and our English Cocker "Baylee" are avid Clemson sports enthusiasts!  We enjoy fishing and boating at the beach and on the lake, watching the girls play tennis, softball, soccer, and track, playing with our chickens, riding tractors on the farm, and attending church activities.  My all time favorite foods are boiled peanuts and pimento cheese...but not together!

If you have a suggestion for a book I should read, drop by the Literacy Lab and share it with me!  Are you looking for a good book?  Come see me!
