Mrs. Vanessa Torres
¡Hola! My name is Vanessa Torres, and I am very grateful to be the Spanish teacher at Nursery Road Elementary-AM. I was born in Columbia, SC and now live in Irmo with my Colombian husband Carlos and our two children Sophia and Isabella, who we are raising bilingually. I absolutely LOVE Spanish! I had a blast studying Spanish language, culture, and dance in Spain and Costa Rica, but hands down the best part about knowing Spanish is that I get to use it to help others, through interpreting, advocating, and of course, teaching!
This year is going to be an awesome year for your child in Spanish! Your child is going to learn Spanish through fun, and sometimes wacky, stories. This method is called Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling, or TPRS, and it is the number one, research-backed methodology for teaching foreign languages. In addition, we sing songs, play games, and do lots of hands on activities.
I am a firm believer that ALL children, regardless of background and ability, can learn Spanish! We are going to have a fun-filled year!
