Mr. Torsten Hallman
This is my 7th year teaching 6th grade science at Chapin Intermediate School. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with an Undergraduate Degree in Education in 2013 and went on to obtain a Masters in Biology from Clemson University.
I am an avid sports fan and love watching and playing whenever possible. I have coached both Boys basketball and soccer through both Chapin Middle and High School.I am a Boston sports fan through and through, and do my best to follow the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins.
My wife Lacey and I got married in July of 2018. She also works in the district as a counselor at Chapin Middle School. We are very involved in our church and are co-youth directors there as well. We have a chocolate lab named Rondo and a black lab mix named Java that we adopted in January. In our spare time we enjoy traveling, eating (and cooking) good food. We love spending time outdoors and hanging out with friends and family.
My class and expectations:
As a teacher, my goal is to develop each student both academically and socially. I aim to make my class as pain free and enjoyable for each student (as well as you) as possible. I take great pride in building lasting relationships with my students and strive to get to know their interests outside of school as well. I expect each student to give me their best each day, but I am also aware that everyone has off days. All I ask is that the students come to class ready to learn and with a positive attitude about what we’re going to learn, and respect for their peers and myself.
Most of the notes/drawings we do in class will be contained in their notebooks, but assignments, notes and study guides are always available through google classroom. We will use their notebooks primarily for shorthand notes and sketches, whereas notes on google classroom will be exactly what I present during class. Students that miss days can easily see/catch up with what we discussed during class through this manner.
- If you ever have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to contact me!
- Homework policy - I do my best to have each student leave my class understanding all material discussed that day. Homework will never be assigned unless a student does not use their time in class for participation. I HIGHLY recommend that each student spend a small amount of time to review their notes each day, but there is no requirement.
- Animals - I maintain a variety of animals in my room. Students are allowed, but by no means required, to interact and help with the care and upkeep of each creature. In special circumstances, students may also be allowed to take animals home with prior parent approval.
- Classroom support - If you have an interest in supporting activities and the upkeep of animals in our classroom, please visit my amazon wish list to see what you can help provide for our class. This list will be updated as necessary throughout the year.
