Dr. Debra Whitmore

A big welcome to students and their families of my AP Government and Politics and Macroeconomics course and my Economics, CP course.  Students and parents may access course schedules and  syllabi at the bottom of this greeting.  Most documents and assignments will be sent directly to each student's email in order to facilitate access and communication with all students. Essential to each student's success is one's ability to complete all assignments and to be prepared for each class session.  All students will have a copy of their course schedules so they may stay current on assignments, assessments, and expectations.   They are also able to plan ahead in order to ensure timely completion of assignments.  Homework assignments for AP U.S. Government and Politics and Macroeconomics will average 1 to 2 hours of homework for each class session.

This year, Chapin High School has implemented a year-long combined course of AP U.S. Government and Politics and AP Macroeconomics.  Therefore, students will cover both curricula and be prepared for two AP Exams: AP U.S. Government and Politics as well as AP Macroeconomics.  Thus, by taking this one year-long course, students may potentially receive college credit for two courses.

All AP students are required to take the course specific AP Exam on its scheduled date which is featured in both the syllabus and the course schedule.

Students enrolled in my previous AP U.S. Government and Politics classes have achieved significantly high passing rates on the Exam, which is just fabulous!  I am looking forward to another great year with all of my students,

Students enrolled in Economics, CP will learn about the macroeconomy of our nation as well as have an opportunity to explore and anticipate personal fiances.  Students will learn about the basic economic theories, policies, and practices that drive both the national and global economies.

BOTH COURSES ARE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS: students must pass government and economic components in order to graduate.

I have been an educator for over 30 years and have taught a diverse array of courses and students.  Since the 1990s I have primarily taught Advanced Placement (AP) courses as well as International Baccalaureate and CP courses.  I am currently a Reader for the AP U.S. History Exam and have previously served as both a Reader and Table Leader for AP European History as well as AP U.S. Government and Politics. In July of 2017 I was awarded my Doctor of Education degree which was conferred by Liberty University.  This was the culmination of intense course work and research.
