Dr. Debra Whitmore

A big welcome to students and their families of my AP Government and Politics and U.S. History Honors classes.  Students will be able to access course schedules and  syllabi by going to the appropriate course webpage.  Most documents and assignments will be sent directly to each student's email in order to facilitate access and communication with all students. Essential to each student's success is one's ability to complete all assignments and to be prepared for each class session.  All students will have a copy of their course schedules so that they are able to not only stay current on assignments, assessments, and expectations, but are also able to plan ahead in order to ensure timely completion of assignments.  Homework assignments for AP U.S. Government and Politics will average 1 1/2 to 2 hours of homework for each class session.

All AP students are required to take the course specific AP Exam on its scheduled date which is featured in both the syllabus and the course schedule.

Students enrolled in my AP U.S. Government and Politics classes last year had an AP passing rate of 92% which is a CHS record and is just fabulous!  I am looking forward to another great year with all of my students,

Students enrolled in U.S. History Honors will experience an appropriately rigorous course in which they will understand how the events, philosophies, and individuals of the past have influenced and impacted our history, nation, and selves.  U.S. History HN students will take the state mandated U.S. History End of Course Exam which will be administered in May.  This mandatory exam will account for 20% of each student's year-grade.

I have been an educator for over 30 years and have taught a diverse array of courses and students.  Since the 1990s I have primarily taught Advanced Placement (AP) courses as well as International Baccalaureate and CP courses.  I am currently a Reader for the AP U.S. History Exam and have previously served as both a Reader and Table Leader for both AP European History and AP U.S. Government and Politics. In July of 2017 I was awarded my Doctor of Education degree which was conferred by Liberty University.  This was the culmination of intense course work and research.
