Welcome to Speech-Language at DFES! My name is Mairel Bettes. While I have worked at several schools in the district, I have been a part of the Fox Cub Family since 2019. I received undergraduate degrees in both Spanish and Communication Disorders from Appalachian State University. I remained at ASU for graduate school and earned a Master's Degree in Communication Disorders. Shortly after graduation, I earned the Clinical Certificate of Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
I am passionate about speech-language pathology and the many branches of communication such as articulation, voice, fluency, and language. With the help of teachers and families, developing communication skills for educational purposes is what I love to do. I have three kids of my own and spend most of my time outside of school at practices and events for soccer, cross country, dance/gymnastics. If you see me out and about, be sure to introduce yourself. I look forward to our conversation.
