Instructor Biography
I was born in Tallahassee, Florida, but I have lived in South Carolina most of my life. I graduated from Summerville High School in 2007 and earned my Bachelor's of Science degree in Animal and Veterinary Science from Clemson University in 2011. My degree concentrated on Equine Business Management, so I concurrently earned a minor in Business Administration. I continued my education and earned my Master's of Science in Animal Sciences and Industry from Kansas State University in the Summer of 2013. My research focused on Equine Nutrition and I am currently revising my research manuscript for publication.
While at Clemson University, I competed on the CU Ranch Horse Team and the CU Horse Judging Team at local and national horse shows and contests. I was also a member of the Clemson Collegiate Horsemen's Association, where I served as the communications officer, secretary, and president. I was also the secretary and president of the national organization, the American Collegiate Horsemen's Association. At Kansas State University, I was a member of the departmental Graduate Student Association and I served as the marketing coordinator during my last semester. Currently, I am one of three advisors for the school FFA chapter and am excited about the activities our officers have planned for the year.
I have had several jobs within the animal industry since high school, dealing particularly with horses.
- Small animal veterinary clinic and boarding/grooming facility, Summerville, SC
- Trail guide at Pisgah Forest Riding Stables, Brevard, NC
- Ranch hand at Roux Reining Horses, Cowpens, SC
- Veterinary Assistant at Equine Medical Associates, Lexington, KY
In summary, I have had many experiences that have fueled my passion for animals and the equine industry. I love sharing that passion with others and educating people on the importance of agriculture to our modern society. I am very excited and blessed to have the opportunity to teach at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies and am looking forward to the learning experiences my students will have this year.
Best Regards,
Mrs. Jessica Hidalgo
