Creating the Future...Challenging the Impossible
Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Rebecca Howell
Welcome to my classroom website!
I am looking forward to a fun and productive year! I will add more information to this page as the year goes along, but here are the basics.
This is my 21st year teaching. I am a proud Clemson graduate who also has a Master's Degree from Columbia College. I am a National Board Certified Science Teacher and also serve as a Project Lead the Way Master Teacher. This is my fourth year in Lexington Richland 5.
What are these Biomedical Sciences courses about?
The Biomedical Sciences curriculum is project and problem based curriculum from Project Lead the Way designed for students interested in public health and medicine. Students explore the concepts of human medicine and are introduced to topics such as physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health.
The PLTW curriculum is founded in fundamental problem-solving and critical thinking skills and also embeds many of the soft skills and habits of the mind requested by industry. This curriculum has been implemented nationwide and has been vetted by secondary and post secondary educators, along with representatives from business and industry.
Students who successfully complete the coursework and the end of course exam can qualify for college credit from several different affiliate universities.
Daily assignments are graded based on a Mastery system. Please see the class syllabus for more details.
How can I monitor my student's progress?
Student progress can be monitored through 2 different online systems:
1) For detailed grades for every assignment, please visit the PLTW Learning Management Systems at https://my.pltw.org/. You will need to get the login information from your students, as each student has a unique login and password.
- Please note that this is a copyrighted curriculum
2) The parent portal login information you have for your home high school also works to see your student's grades for their Center classes. The grades I post here are not as detailed as the grades on the PLTW site, but should reflect the same overall grades. Please note that there may be a delay in grading updates from one site to the other.
