My name is Leyla Wilcox and I am the new Assistant Computer Lab teacher here at H.E.Corley. This will be my 13th year working in education. I have spent the last 7 years as an Instructional Assistant to the 4k Child Development program at Dutch Fork Elementary. Prior to that, I spent 5 years teaching 3k preschool at Riverland Hills Day School. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Communications from the College of Charleston.
I am originally from Atlanta, GA, but have lived here in Columbia for almost 18 years. My husband, Jason, is a local chef, and we have two boys, Jackson and Logan. Jackson is a junior this year , and Logan is a 7th grader. Both boys play rugby for their middle and HS teams. Logan has also become very active in skateboarding.
I enjoy just about any outdoor activity, especially if water is involved. I spend many weekends throughout the school year traveling around the state in a van filled with stinky rugby players. I spend many hot summer days watching my 7th grader sharpen his skills at the Owens Field skatepark.
I am so excited to join such an amazing group of teachers and staff, and absolutely thrilled that I finally get to spend some time teaching a few of the “big kids”!
