Art at CrossRoads
Mrs. Caroline Butcher
CrossRoads Visual Arts Teacher
Welcome to the CrossRoads art webpage! I am not sure what I love more: teaching, art, or CrossRoads! I am very excited to have the privilege to teach these students, and I look forward to getting to you and your student.
Art is a semester course designed to give students a well-rounded art education based on the four parts of Discipline-Based Art Education (in no specific order):
1) Art Production
2) Art History
3) Art Criticism/Analysis, and
4) Aesthetic Awareness.
Not only do students need to learn how to create artwork, but it is equally important that they study a diverse range of artists from throughout history. When describing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating the work of others, an artist improves his/her/their personal artwork. The goal of this course is to broaden students’ understanding and appreciation of art media, art movements and artists in order to have a greater awareness of the world around them.
