Ms. Burnette

Hello! My name is Leigh Burnette (she/her) and this is my seventh year teaching at Nursery Road. I teach the L.I.F.E. classroom, which stands for Learning in a Functional Environment. I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at USC.

I really love being outside, especially in the mountains! I hike in my free time and also love traveling to new and exciting places. I also love working in my garden with my two dogs keeping me company, Phife and Mose!

In my classroom are two awesome assistants, Mrs. Baig and Mrs. Tucker. We have a lot of fun working together as a team to help students achieve their goals! Mrs. Baig and Mrs. Tucker both bring their experience, knowledge, and love for the kids every day and our classroom is better for it!

Prior to working at Nursery Road, I worked for CarolinaLIFE, which is an alternative program for non-degree-seeking students with diverse learning needs at the University of South Carolina. I am very passionate about empowering students to advocate for themselves, become as independent as possible, and achieve their goals. I also love working to connect people with the awesome resources in our community that work towards making the Midlands, state, and world as a whole a more equal place for all! I went into education because it is a way to work towards a more equal and just world, which is what our kids deserve!
