Ms. Burnette

Hello! My name is Leigh Burnette (she/her) and this is my sixth year teaching at Nursery Road. I teach the L.I.F.E. classroom, which stands for Learning in a Functional Environment. I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at USC.

I love to travel, especially to Haiti. I go whenever I can! I also love spending time with my dogs, Phife and Mose. I love hiking and doing yoga.

In my classroom are two awesome assistants, Mrs. Rana Baig and Mrs. Willine Gilliard (Mrs. G). We have a lot of fun working together as a team to help students reach their goals! Mrs. Baig has four grandchildren that she loves to visit! Mrs. G's nickname is Rock because she was a tomboy when she was a little girl. Mrs. Baig and Mrs. G bring their experience, knowledge, and love for the kids every day and our classroom is better for it!

Prior to working at Nursery Road I worked for CarolinaLIFE, which is an alternative program for non-degree seeking students with diverse learning needs at the University of South Carolina. I am very passionate about empowering students to advocate for themselves, become as independent as possible, and reach their goals. I went into education because it is a way to work towards a more equal and just world which is what our kids deserve!

If you need to reach me please do not hesitate to contact me at lburnette@lexrich5.org.
