Dr. Gates began teaching in 1988 at Irmo High School. In 1992, he was selected to become part of the Inagurual Staff of Dutch Fork High School where he taught until 2006. While at DFHS, Dr. Gates served as department chair and started the STEM program. In 2006, Dr. Gates became the district coordinator for science, health, and physical education and served in that capacity until 2012, when he was selected as the Assistant Director of Career and Technical Education. In 2017, Dr. Gates was selected to be the Director of Career and Technical Education.
Dr. Gates holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Master of Education in Secondary Science Education, a Master of Education in Secondary Administration, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Secondary Education. He received National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adult Science in 2001 and is endorsed to teach honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Mr. McGinty is a graduate of Presbyterian College earning a Bachelor of Art and Bachelors of Science in 1999. He completed his post-graduate work at the University of South Carolina earning a Master’s degree and Specialist degree in Educational Administration. Currently, Mr. McGinty is a doctoral candidate at the University of South Carolina in the Educational Leadership program. Prior to joining the administrative team at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies, Mr. McGinty served in several administrative capacities across School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties including Administrative Assistant at the Academy For Success (2012-2014), Director of Summer School (2014), Interim Coordinator of Certified Personnel in Human Resources (2015), and Assistant Principal at Dutch Fork High School (2015-2017). Mr. McGinty is a passionate educator who believes in cultivating a climate of academic optimism in which each child is challenged to achieve his/her greatest potential.
