Mrs. Marthalyn Schimsa

Hi, my name is Marthalyn Schimsa and I am an itinerant Speech-Language Pathologist which means I serve more than one school.  I am currently assigned to Nursery Road Elementary School two afternoons each week (Mondays and Wednesdays) and the rest of the week I work at Irmo Elementary School.  I have a bachelor's degree in English from Columbia College and a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Carolina.

Speech-Language Pathologists, also known as speech therapists, are trained and licensed to diagnose and treat a wide variety of speech and language disorders within four main areas: articulation (word pronunciation), language (receptive and expressive communication), voice (how speech sounds), and fluency (commonly called stuttering).

My husband, Dave, and I have lived in Irmo for many years and have two grown children, Adam and Rebecca, both graduates of Irmo High School.  We have two rescue dogs, Scout and Pippa, and enjoy spending time on the lake, traveling, reading, and cheering on our two favorite teams: The Citadel Bulldogs and the USC Gamecocks!
