Ms. Sumner M. Bender

Sumner M. Bender is the Theatre Teacher at Spring Hill High School, she also teaches a semester long Public Speaking class. Ms. Bender is currently the President of the Board of Directors for Trustus Theatre, serves as an at-large board member for the SC Theatre Associatoin, and The Contemporarties for The Columbia Museum of Art. At SHHS Ms. Bender is the teacher sponsor for the Thespian Society, an internationally recognized honor program. Ms. Bender runs the Stallion Theatre Group, the production company for the theatre program, which produces a play and a musical each year along with attending state-wide competitions. The Stallion Theatre Group is active on Facebook and Instagram and welcomes you to follow along for program and production annoucements. The Stallion Theatre Group is always looking for volunteers and values community connections and sponsorships.

The Theatre program at Spring Hill High School's Mission is to:

  • Develop creativity, artistic skills and professionalism in students through active programing.
  • Encourage and develop skills in communication, problem solving, research, and effective writing through coursework and application in performance and production.
  • Offer Honors and College Prep students to the opportunity to expand and perfect their knowledge of the literary, historical and philosophical aspects of theatre through a rich curriculum.
  • Foster students' understanding and appreciation of the arts through general education courses and the production program.
