Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Joseph Chapman

Welcome to Law Enforcement Services!

My name is Mr. Chapman and I am entering my fifth year as one of our two Law Enforcement Services teachers, Mr. Guirau being the other.  I have been married for 14 years and my wife is a CPA and partner at her firm.  I have three daughters who are every bit as active as I am through sports, dance, and gymnastics.  I come from a D5 family with my mother going to Irmo High School and teaching in our district for nearly her entire career, mostly at Crossroads (Campus I before it changed names).

I am an Irmo High School and the University of South Carolina graduate (Go Gamecocks!) with a degree in Criminology & Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology.  I served the citizens of Richland County with the Richland County Sheriff's Department for 11 years.  Four of those years were spent in the Training Division as a Field Training Officer and then Instructor.

I have earned 40+ certifications related to Law Enforcement and teaching, half of which are Instructor certifications.  I currently serve on the Education & Business Summit Planning Committee, the D5 Superintendent's Faculty Advisory Cabinet, the SkillsUSA South Carolina Executive Board, and various other district and non-district committees.  I am also a member of multiple organizations and coach youth sports, specifically softball and soccer.

I was honored to be named the 2020 Teacher of the Year for our school, the 2020 SkillsUSA SC State, Region 2, and National Advisor of the Year.

I have been a SkillsUSA advisor for 4 years and the Lead Advisor of our SkillsUSA Chapter for three of those, where I have helped coach multiple students/teams to state championships, national finals, and multiple national placers and titles.  Our chapter has been a Model of Excellence for the past two years, making us one of the top 24 chapters in the country.  This past June, we were named the top chapter in the country in the Personal Skills component. To learn more, check out our Google Site (SkillsUSA CATS). You can also check out the SkillsUSA South Carolina website for even more greate information (SkillsUSA South Carolina).

Although this year will certainly bringing its own set of challenges, we will look at them as opportunities to grow as a person, a student, and a future professional.
