Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Iliana Castillón

İBienvenidos! Hola..and Hello! I am embarking upon my 23rd year in education. I’m originally from Southern California and moved to South Carolina in 2013! I am very excited to be here at Chapin Elementary and in Chapin in general. My endorsements include ESOL, Spanish, Primary Language Instruction, Elementary Instruction and Adult Education. I am Highly Qualified in Spanish and am currently working on my Gifted and Talented Certification. Before teaching at CES, I taught 3rd-6th grade Primary Language Instruction in Spanish in Lexington 1. Prior to that I taught Dual Spanish Immersion for 12 years in California.  I am a 1996 graduate from San Diego State University, University of Southern California in 1991 and earned my Master’s Degree from Point Loma Nazarene in 2005. Currently I am studying to receive my Doctorate in Higher Education with an Emphasis in Instructional Leadership.

I absolutely adore my native Spanish language and hopefully my love of the language will be contagious to my students here in Chapin. English is not my native language. I actually learned English in school just before entering middle school. I understand wholeheartedly all the trials and tribulations that come with acquiring a second language. Since moving to Chapin I have been blessed with a wonderful home and property which I share with my 2 children, 2 dogs and 2 cats. I have one daughter and one son. When I am not teaching, you’ll find me in the garden on our property or spending time with my family on our back porch. İAdelante!
