Mr. Rutland Martin

Hello!

My name is Rutland Martin and I am so excited to be your child's third grade teacher this year at Chapin Elementary School. This is my second year as a teacher. I started at Chapin Elementary as a student-teacher in the Spring of 2018 and was blessed to join the staff as a certified teacher upon graduating from the University of South Carolina. At the University of South Carolina I was a member of the Coed Cheerleading team for 4 years serving as the team captain in my final two years and ultimately placing 9th in the world at the 2017 Universal Cheer Association Partner Stunt National Championship. It was through cheerleading that I began coaching at ACX-Irmo and found my passion for building relationships with young people and helping them achieve their goals. I am now entering my 8th year as a cheerleading coach and choreographer at SilverJax Cheer and Tumble (Cayce) and the South Carolina Dance Company (Lexington).

When I am not teaching or coachingI love watching the Gamecocks on the field, on the court, and on the baseball diamond. I have been playing music as long as I can remember and occasionally play "gigs" in the Columbia area. I have been playing guitar for 10 years and look forward to incorporating my love of music in the classroom this year. My guitars, my bible, and my dog, Lyla, are three things I could not live without.

It is a privilege to be a part of the CES family and teaching your child is not a responsibility that I take lightly. My mission this year is to empower the young people in room 315 and help them become agents of their own learning. I am confident in the research and theories that I have adopted and grounded myself in as a professional; I am confident in the mentors I have had to this point and the guidance I continue to receive as I grow in this profession; and I am confident that this will be a very special year at Chapin Elementary School.
