Dr. X'andria Sutton

Teaching Experience

Hi there, I'm Dr. X'andria Sutton and I teach Learning Strategies and English here at Irmo High School. I have been teaching for over 5 years and I currently hold the honor of being the 2021-2022 IHS Teacher of the Year.

I know most students don't believe I have a life outside of the school, but I do. I am married to an amazing person, who also happens to teach at Irmo High School.  Together we have 2 awesome kiddos, Braedyn and Bakari.  We are originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida but relocated to the Columbia area 7 years ago.  We love it here and are often out in the community.  Say 'hi' if you see us out and about! We love meeting our students and their families!

I love reading, learning and writing.  I am a forever student and a bit of a nerd.  I also love exploring my creative side, most often by crafting and cake decorating.

Teaching Philosophy

When it comes to teaching, I would like to believe that I am a champion for my students.  I wholeheartedly believe in supporting all students.  My goal is to help students define what success looks like for each of them and to help them reach that goal.

"Theory without practice is just as incomplete as practice without theory.  The two have to go together." ~Assata Shakur
