Hello Yellow Jackets!
I am very happy to be here at Irmo High School! This is my 9th year teaching English in South Carolina, and I am so grateful to be able to say that my job is my passion! Everyday I get to wake up and come to a place where I can be an important part of people's learning adventures, and I get to do it while working in my two favorite fields: reading, and writing! I can't imagine a day better spent than one in which the students and I are delving into new material, exploring the concepts within, and learning who we are in relation to what else is out there! The skills we learn in class are the skills that make us who we are, and make us better able to express ourselves.
I've lived in SC for 8 years, and I love it! I am originally from Wayne County, Michigan. I have 5 brothers and sisters, 2 dads, 1 mom, 2 biological kids, 2 step kids, a husband, and a dog, so I know that life can be a beautiful mess, but it's so worth it! I travel as much as I can- as far as I can! I've been to London, Paris, Rome, Naples, Tuscany, Havana, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Oahu, and the Bahamas! I love meeting new people, soaking up new ideas, and using all of it to rebuild what I believe about life and the world everyday! I love learning, and I will use my time to learn from my students as much as they learn from me!
I've been studying Spanish for years, and I speak it pretty well, so if you want someone to practice with, come by and practice with me!
I am looking forward to having a great year, as we embark on our learning journeys together! In all things, we should strive to be the best version of ourselves, and to assist with making everyone around us the best version of themselves! We should be open to new ideas, and never assume that we know all there is to know about anything.
We will grow together in this room!
