Mrs. Leverett

Hello! I am Sarah Leverett and will be teaching Learning Strategies with the Five Virtual Academy. I spent 11 years in the early childhood classroom where I cultivated my passion for the developmental stages, brain research, and early intervention. I joined the District 5 family four years ago as a schoolwide instructional assistant while working on my masters. I am passionate about reaching all learners, but especially those that learn differently, have trouble connecting with others, or need help being understood. I support a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) that provides the opportunity for all students to access, participate in, and progress in the general-education curriculum by reducing barriers to instruction. With that in mind, I take every opportunity available to share my passions in the areas of social-emotional learning, brain health, assistive technology, and the importance movement and exercise has on the brain.

FAMILY & Interests

I stay pretty busy, but I like it that way! I am married with three crazy children that always keep life interesting. My oldest son is headed to Chapin High School, my middle son will be in 5th grade at River Springs Elementary, and my daughter, Rosa, starts second grade at River Springs. When I am not reading books about the brain,  I love hiking, eating sweets, drinking coffee and collecting records for my console table!

I believe education begins with building relationships with all of my students and their families. I strive to integrate student interest, family culture, and individual learning styles to make content relevent and exciting. My goal is to equip students with the tools needed for effective communication, respecting others, emotional health, and individualized learning strategies that transfer across settings.
