I am thrilled to be teaching at River Springs Elementary School! I love the dedication and positive energy here at the River!
This is my 18th year teaching art and my 7th year teaching in Lexington/Richland School District 5. I am truly honored to share my love of art with your beautiful children. Before teaching in South Carolina, I taught art for 11 years in a variety of schools in the Chicago area. I taught at Morgan Park Academy, Beacon Therapeutic Day School, KAM Isaiah Israel Preschool, and The Sue Duncan Children’s Center.
Prior to working in education, I worked as a registered art therapist and licensed, clinical counselor in the Chicago area with special needs children for seven years. I created a variety of wellness programs in community mental health, private practice and served as a mental health consultant for Head Start Preschool programs. I am passionate about using art to promote emotional and social growth and fell in love with being in the classroom setting. I realized that I could best serve children in educational settings teaching them life-long, self-expression skills.
My husband and I have been married for 25 years! He is a native Irmo guy and we relocated back here 9 years ago to be near family. I am very proud of the work my husband does as a health care provider, serving the uninsured in Columbia. We have 2 incredibly active sons, Colin and Thomas who play almost every sport known to man. During my “free time”, I love making all kinds of art; painting, drawing, mixed media, fibers, and practicing yoga! https://www.alyssamullaney.com/
